    Post October Community Update

    Greetings, Trainers!

The November game update created an interesting conundrum for the development team. Two different products release next week, two days apart: Black & White—Legendary Treasures on the 6th, and the XY Kalos Starter Set on the 8th. While we typically prefer to add cards to the game the same day that they are released, we felt it the community would prefer to spend more time in the game. With that in mind, we've elected to combine the releases and add both sets to the game on the 8th.

The November game update will bring a few new twists to the game. Here’s a quick overview of what’s in store.

Due to the complex collation scheme necessary to incorporate the Radiant Collection subset into Legendary Treasures, we are unable to offer the usual 5-card boosters for this expansion in the Trainer Token Shop. To ensure that players are still able to earn these cards through regular game play, we will be adding 10-card boosters from this expansion to the Shop for 195 Trainer Tokens. As with the 5-card boosters, these boosters and the cards contained inside will not be tradable. However, these will be exactly like boosters unlocked through code redemption in every other way, including containing parallel foil cards. We will resume the 5-card booster configuration for future expansions.

In addition to bringing new Pokémon characters into the game, the XY Kalos Starter Set will bring a some exciting changes with it. First is the inclusion of the new Fairy-type Pokémon and basic Fairy Energy. To ensure that all players can take advantage of the new Fairy-type Pokémon, we will be adding unlimited basic Fairy Energy to every player’s account. Additionally, the rules changes announced on Pokémon.com at the beginning of October will be implemented in the game client during this update. If you haven’t already familiarized yourself with these changes, you can read about them here.

Further progress is made in the new User Experience functionality with the addition of Guest Mode. This game mode allows players without a Pokémon Trainer Club account to try out the game. These players will be able to play through the Gold League but will not be able to save their progress without creating an account. Our goal is to provide more players with a “try it before you buy it” opportunity.

In addition to these new features, the development team has been working on new features and bug fixes for the Deck Manager based on community feedback. These changes range from the ability to view the contents of all of your decks, to separating cards with the same title in the All view. While work on this feature is by no means complete, the majority of the issues reported by the community have been resolved.

As mentioned in last month’s update, the December game update will be very light on new content due to the winter holidays. Work on projects such as Tournament Mode and the UI update will continue during this time, but we anticipate office closures and personal time off to disrupt our ability to deliver this content in December.

Speaking of the UI update, I would like to pass along a screenshot of an update that we’re looking to implement in January. The screenshot below provides a 2-for-1, as it features both the new Nav Bar and some of the new Trade functionality. As always, this is a work in progress, so naming conventions, icons and final functionality is subject to change.

Gameplay modes have been broken out into separate buttons, with the star representing Trainer Challenge, the lightning bolt representing Versus Mode and the Trophy representing Tournament Mode. Buttons for the Shop and the Help sections remain prominent in the Nav Bar, as do the Trainer Token and Gems balances, and the yet to be implemented player level. The other game components will be accessed via the dropdown menus to the upper left and right corners of the screen.

Taking a page from the Deck Manager, the Create Trade screen is designed to increase the speed and ease of posting offers. Players will no longer be required to flip between screens to find and add items to an offer; a simple drag and drop does the trick. As with building a deck, players can use the + and – symbols on each card to increase or decrease the quantity of each items in the offer. Finding items will be easier than ever thanks to the category tabs and item-specific filters. Once an offer is created, clicking the Done button will take the player to a confirmation screen, where they can review the items being exchanged and make quantity adjustments before posting the trade.

Before I leave, I wanted to remind everyone of the upcoming sunsetting for Booster Credits. While the game is in maintenance for the January update, we will complete the sunsetting process by replacing all unredeemed Booster Credits with an equal number of assorted digital booster packs from the Black & White through Black & White—Boundaries Crossed expansions. If you were looking for specific cards from these expansions, or want cards from the HeartGold & SoulSilver series, make sure you redeem your Booster Credits before the January game update!

Well, that wraps it up for this month’s update! As always, thank you for your continued support!
