November Community Update

Greetings Trainers!

With November drawing to a close, it’s once again time for a community update. This month brought the return of Mac users to the game and a new Pokémon TCG expansion, containing new Pokémon and the new ACE SPEC card-type.

The holiday season is typically accompanied by office closures, family vacations and other plans which tend to disrupt the regular work flow. We’ve elected to keep the December build fairly light in terms of new game content in an effort to minimize risks associated with deploying new features. The primary focus for next build will be polish for existing features, fixing game and card bugs, and improving the admin tools.

That said, we are working toward implementing a basic version of the Play Types feature in the December build. The initial Play Types available will be Theme Deck, Unlimited, and Modified. When looking for a match in Versus Mode, players will only face opponents who have selected the same Play Type.

Theme Deck: Players can use any theme deck in their collection.

Unlimited: Players can use any deck in their collection.

Modified: Players can use any deck in their collection which meets the Modified format restrictions. The standard tournament format for all Play! Pokémon events, the current Modified format prohibits the use of cards from Pokémon TCG expansions prior to Black & White. Expansions are rotated out of the Modified format on an annual basis.

As mentioned above, this will only be a basic implementation of the Play Type feature. We will continue to work on polishing this feature in the coming months, and look forward to suggestions from the community.
